Day One:

Arrive in Bogota

Upon arrival, transfer to the Best Western Plus Parque 93.

Day Two

Bogota Sightseeing

After breakfast, take a tour of the historical center of Bogota, starting at the Plaza de Bolivar, the center of Colombia's legislative life, including the Presidential Palace. Visit the nearby Gold Museum, which holds over 34,000 pieces of metal-work from pre-Columbian cultures. Then take a funicular up to Monserrate Hill to see the best view of Bogota from the monastery on top.

Day Three

Zipaquira's Salt Cathedral & Villa de Leyva

After breakfast, head to Zipaquira to see the underground Salt Cathedral, built 180 meters below the surface in an old salt mine. Take a tour of the majestic Cathedral* before enjoying lunch, then continue on to Puente de Boyaca, the site of the historic Battle of Boyaca that resulted in the liberation of what is now Colombia from Spanish rule. Arrive in Villa de Leyva and overnight at the Hotel Campanario de la  Villa.


*Visiting the Salt Cathedral is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues or anyone who is pregnant.

Day Four

Villa de Leyva

After breakfast, take a tour in and around Villa de Leyva, one of best preserved colonial towns in Colombia. The tour will include stops at the incredible Paleontological Museum, the Sante Ecce Homo Convent, and a visit to Raquira, a nearby town which is famous for its vibrant houses and arts & crafts. Return to Villa de Leyva for overnight.

Day Five

Villa de Leyva - Cartagena

After breakfast, head out early in the morning to return to Bogota. From there, fly to Cartagena and transfer to the Hotel Casa Don Luis.

Day Six

Cartagena

Breakfast at the hotel. Take a panoramic tour of Cartagena's many neighborhoods, including Boca Grande, Getsemani, and Manga. Visit the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas, which the Spanish used to defend against English pirates. End the day with a walking tour of the historic walled city center of Cartagena, which is full of vibrantly colored houses.

Day Seven

Carnaval in Barranquilla

After breakfast, drive to Barranquilla to witness the Battle of the Flowers Parade, one of the long-standing Carnaval traditions in Barranquilla. Enjoy a boxed lunch and reserved seating while you watch the colorful floats and dancers celebrate. Return to Cartagena for overnight.

Day Eight

Free day in Cartagena

Breakfast at the hotel. Explore Cartagena, relax on the beach, or perhaps take an optional full day tour to the Rosario Islands for $106 per person - a National Natural Park where you can swim or snorkel among the coral reefs. Lunch and transfers to the dock included. Additional fees for snorkeling, the Aquarium, and other activities are not included.

Day Nine

Return Home

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
