Itinerary

Day One:
Arrive at Yogyakarta Airport and transfer to Yogyakarta. Start the day with a tour of Yogyakarta including the Kraton (the Sultan's Palace) and Taman Sari Water Castle. Visit a local batik maker to learn how this emblematic fabric of Indonesia is made and try your hand at it. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before enjoying some time on Malioboro Street, where local batik makers sell their wares, before returning to your hotel.

Day Two:
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the Gunung Kidul District to visit Jomblang Cave, a vertical cave known for the way the sunlight enters the cave, creating a beautiful "heaven's light" effect. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Timang Beach. You can visit Timang Island the local way by a manually pulled cable car, or walk along a suspended rope bridge. Return to Yogyakarta.

Day Three:
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, build in the 9th Century during the Sailendra Dynasty. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is on par with incredible monuments such as Angkor Wat. Lunch at a local restaurant. Take a tour through local villages to meet with and learn how locals live in the countryside. Take part in a pottery workshop before returning to Yogyakarta.

Day Four:
Breakfast at the hotel. Head to Mt. Merapi for a tour by jeep around the mountain. Visit the Alien Stone and a house destroyed by an eruption that has been preserved along the way. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then return to Yogyakarta for a tour of the stunning Prambanan Temple, built in the 9th Century. It is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and the second largest in the world, after Angkor Wat. Before its destruction in an earthquake, the temple rivaled the beauty of its Cambodian counterpart, and now it is being painstakingly and slowly restored to its former glory as per UNESCO World Heritage Site rules.

Day Five:
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
