ITINERARY

Day One:

Arrive in Havana

Upon arrival, meet with your guide and transfer into the city. Stop for lunch (included) before heading into Old Havana for an enlightening walking tour where we will visit some of the most significant historic sites in the city, such as the Plaza de Armas, Plaza de San Francisco, and the Plaza de la Catedral. Dinner at a local restaurant (paladar).

Day Two

Havana History & Culture

Breakfast at the hotel. Walk along the Malecon to the Patronato Community Center to hear a talk about local Jewish history from William Miller. From there, head to the Sephardic Center to have lunch with Jewish seniors from Havana. Visit a local market to buy food for Shabbat before learning salsa and a few rikudim with young Cuban Jews. In the evening, enjoy dinner and get a taste for Cuban music, song, and dance at El Guajirito.

Day Three

In the footsteps of Hemingway

Breakfast at the hotel. Start the day at a senior center in one of Havana's poorest neighborhoods, La Guinera. Then follow the steps of the famous writer, Ernest Hemingway, to his home at

Finca Vigia, where he lived for 21 years and created some of his most renowned works. Visit the Jewish Cemetery of Havana. Lunch on the way back to Havana. Stop by Morro Castle to walk along the ramparts and get a different view of Old Havana. In the afternoon, stop at Casa del Niño y La Niña, an after school program of children in the Vedado neighborhood.

 

Tonight, take part in Shabbat Services at Beth Shalom Synagogue along with the local community, followed by Shabbat dinner together at the Patronato community center.

Day Four

Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. Take a ride in a classic car through Old Havana and the elegant neighborhood of Miramar, including a visit to Fusterlandia. This unique community full of vibrant mosaic art was created by the Cuban artist Jose Fuster, who continues his work to this day. Have lunch at a local restaurant  Stop by Revolution Square to learn about the Cuban Revolution. End the day at the Hall of Fame Bar at the Hotel Nacional. Dinner on your own.
Optional Activity (not included): the Tropicana Cabaret, one of the most famous shows in Cuba since the 1930's.

Day Five

Santa Clara & Trinidad

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out and begin the journey out into the Cuban countryside. The first stop will be Santa Clara, the city where the final battle of the Cuban Revolution happened between Che and Battista's troops. Visit the memorial to Che Guevara and the local Jewish community in Santa Clara, which has their own small synagogue. After lunch on the way, stop by a local community project for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Head to the Grand Melia Beach Resort in Trinidad for relaxing evening. Dinner at the hotel.

Day Six

El Valle de los Ingenios

Breakfast at the hotel. Start the day in the city center of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Hertiage Site, with it's charming and well preserved colonial architecture. Get a sip of the famous local cocktail "la canchanchara" along with lunch at a local restaurant.
Visit a Santeria priest, also called a Babalawo, to learn about Cuban folklore and this unique religion.

Optional tour to El Valle de los Ingenios (included), also known as the Sugar Mills Valley. This valley holds great historical significance as well as beauty, as it was home to many sugar plantations and slaves. Dinner at the hotel.

Day Seven

Cienfuegos

Breakfast at the hotel. Return to Havana via the city of Cienfuegos. Take a tour of the city including the Ferrer Palace and Terry Theater. Lunch at a local restaurant. Check into the hotel in Havana. Enjoy a farewell dinner with the group.

Day Eight

Return Home

Breakfast at the hotel. Depending on the flight time, you may enjoy a morning activity before checking out and transfering to the airport for your flight home.
