Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive in Chiang Mai and transfer to the Rim Resort.

Located on the Ping River, Chiang Mai was once the capital of the Lanna Kingdom during the 12th-15th centuries. Now it is the second largest city in Thailand and its cultural capital, a host to a plethora of ancient history, a modern metropolis, and plenty of natural beauty.

DAY 2

Breakfast at the hotel.  Wander around the historic walled city of Chiang Mai, visiting the old temples of the Lanna Kingdom including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang, and the impressive Doi Suthep. Meet with a local monk for a discussion about Doi Suthep and Buddhism in Thailand while taking a tour of the temple. Lunch at a local restaurant. End the day with a workshop at a local umbrella factory where you can paint your own, as well as a Celadon factory.

DAY 3

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the Elephant Nature Park for a 2 day/1 night program at the elephant rescue and rehabilitation center. Learn about the herd and park before lunch, then spend time with the elephants themselves. Dinner and overnight at the park.

DAY 4

Breakfast at the park. Spend more time among the elephants before heading back to Chiang Mai.

DAY 5

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Chiang Rai and visit the spectacular Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple. This fantastical temple is unlike any other in Thailand, with its all white exterior, unique sculptures, and paintings that reference pop culture. Then head to the Black House, another one-of-a-kind art project that represents hell where as the White Temple represents heaven. Afterward, drive to Chiang Kong. Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 6

Early breakfast before crossing the border into Laos. From there board the longboat and cruise down the Mekong River to the town of Pakbeng. Enjoy lunch on board and stop from time to time at a Khmu village. Dinner and overnight at the lodge in Pakbeng.

DAY 7

Breakfast at the lodge. Return to the long boat and sail toward Luang Prabang. Along the way stop at a Hmong village before lunch. Then visit the Pak Ou Caves, an ancient pilgrimage site. Disembark in Luang Prabang and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 8

Breakfast at the hotel. Take a tour of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit a senior monk at Wat That Luang, Wat Visoun, and Wat Xiengthong before stopping at the Royal Palace Museum. In the afternoon, drive to the Kwang Si Waterfalls. Visit a local bear rescue center nearby, then walk through the jungle to see the many different water falls. In the evening, climb Mount Phou Si for a beautiful view of the city. Wander around the night market before returning to the hotel.

DAY 9

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bangkok. Upon arrival in Bangkok, transfer to the hotel and have the rest of the day free to explore the city.

DAY 10

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Pak Khlong Talad flower market before stopping at the Grand Palace to see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, one of Thailand's most famous sites. Lunch at a local restaurant. See Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

 

In the evening, head to the riverside to enjoy the Loy Kratong Festival, where the Thai people light lanterns and send them down the river to thank the Goddess of the water and the river.

DAY 11

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Krabi. Upon arrival in Krabi, transfer to the hotel and have the rest of the day free to relax on the beach, which overlooks the stunning Hong Island.

DAY 12

Breakfast at the hotel. Take a private excursion to Hong Island, which features towering karsts that have created enclosed tidal pools and lagoons where you can swim and snorkel. Visit other islands such as Lading, Pakbia, and Rai for more relaxation and beach activities. Lunch at a local restaurant. The rest of the day is free to enjoy Krabi.

DAY 13

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is free to enjoy the beaches in Krabi or take an excursion to other islands.

In the evening, join the group for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
